The rewire is the project where section per circuit stops being a detail.

Old Barcelona apartments hide three problems behind every fuse box: undersized cable for modern loads, single-pole protection that lets neutral float, and shared circuits that trip when two appliances run together. A real rewire fixes all three at the same time, then signs a butlletí for the whole installation.

Section calculated per circuit

1.5 mm² for lighting, 2.5 mm² for general sockets, 4 mm² for kitchen, 6 mm² for induction or oven, 10 mm² for shower. Joan calculates the section from the actual run length and the load — not catalogue defaults. Aluminium gets removed, copper goes in.

Selective RCBOs in the panel

One RCBO per circuit means only the offending circuit trips when there's a fault — the rest of the apartment keeps power. We use 30 mA general-purpose plus 10 mA for bathroom and kitchen. AFDD on bedroom circuits if you want the arc-fault protection added by REBT 2024.

Three different scopes, three different markers. Electrician handles one-off callouts in an occupied flat. Electrical installation works covers new circuits or panel additions during a reform. Electrical system installation = the whole apartment is rewired end to end with a new consumer unit. We file each one differently and the price scales differently.
In most Eixample buildings a comunicat covers a like-for-like rewire if the layout doesn't change. If walls are chased, sockets repositioned, partition added — usually llicència obra menor, 4-8 weeks at the Ajuntament. We file it as a separate line on the quote.
Seven to twelve working days for the wiring itself, plus plaster patching afterwards (separate trade). With a turnkey reform the rewire happens during the first-fix phase and adds no separate calendar time. Standalone rewire in an occupied flat is two to three weeks with a temporary feed.
No, not properly. Power gets cut zone by zone, walls get chased, plaster dust is everywhere. Phased room-by-room is possible with a temporary feed but adds 30-50% to the timeline and we still recommend you stay elsewhere for the noisiest week.
Butlletí REBT signed and stamped by Joan (registered installer), as-built single-line diagram of the panel, photos of every junction box before the wall closed, calibration sheet for each RCBO, contract paperwork to declare the new installation to Endesa. Complete folder, also digital.
